Priorities

Obviously, since this is my first post since {yikes!} October, blogging has not been much of a priority in my life. I found myself so busy filling orders (thank you to my wonderful supporters!), taking care of my family, volunteering in my kids' classrooms, preparing for Hanukkah AND Christmas in our house (wonderful in theory, quite exhausting in real-life), keeping in touch with my girlfriends, recouping from what seemed like the never-ending case of the flu which produced a couple of fractured ribs (ouch!).

At one point I looked at my husband and said, "How am I going to do all of this?" His response was, "You say this every year, and you always manage." While I appreciate his vote of confidence, I must admit, this season has been a rough one.

I vowed when I started this blog it was not going to be yet another thing I felt obligated to do and guilty if I did not. So... while I realize inconsistent blogging is not going to win me a great number of followers, I will continue to offer store specials & new product information when appropriate, and I hope that you will continue to check in as well!

As a former elementary teacher, I possess quite the love for children's literature. Over the years, I acquired a large classroom library and am now constantly stocking my own children's collection at home.

This weekend I added self-adhesive bookplates in gift tins to my website, and I just love them. Paired with some wonderful picture books, this makes a fabulous gift for a child.

My bookplates measure 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" and fit perfectly in the see-through top tin. They are customizable, so any text may be used. For the adult book lovers, I offer many sophisticated styles as well!

Making good use of scrap paper

Thought I would post a picture of what my 6 year-old daughter spent an afternoon of her spring break doing while mommy got caught up on some work. Taking the scraps from an order I was working on and a little cardboard car she got with a fast food kids' meal, she created quite an elaborate house of paper. This picture shows only one wing of the house. She even included little headphones that attached to her computer (see them hanging over the office chair?) so that "her computer games do not disturb the mommy while she is working." It was at that point that I decided it was time to shut down the computers for a while and take the kids to the book store!

Lately I have had several requests from customers for "pink ribbon" products to spread the word on breast cancer awareness. One customer recently ordered note cards for a friend of her's who is going through treatment and needed some love and support.

The photo shown here is an order from a customer who works in healthcare and will be using the note paper in her line of work. She asked for an "artsy" ribbon and her monogram. Thought I would share before I ship them out.

Stylish and sophisticated does not have to be stuffy or expensive. I have just added a few new invitation designs to my store that are so versatile they can be used for a casual birthday party or an elegant wedding!

All of the text is customizable, and many of these designs can be ordered in different color themes. My invitations measure 5 x 7, are printed on 80# smooth cover stock (linen also available), and come with white envelopes. Colored envelopes are also available and add an extra special touch. Welcome baby to the family

One of the perks of having my own stationery business is that it is lots of fun making gifts for my friends. This is a little set I put together for a friend who just had her third beautiful babe a few weeks ago. Cooking up a great gift for the newlyweds

While I might not be much of a cook (serious understatement), I can certainly appreciate a cute, stylish recipe card. I have recently added a collection of personalized recipe cards to The Note House website. Sold in sets of 10, 20, and 50, my recipe cards measure 4 x 6, and they will arrive gift-giving ready, packaged in cellophane and tied with a white raffia ribbon.

I often struggle with bridal registries because it can seem a bit impersonal. Why not buy the happy couple that blender they have been wanting, and include a set of monogram recipe cards to go along with it? Recipe cards may be customized too, so I can design a set to match a theme as well.

Since the development of The Note House, I have definitely added to the "hustle and bustle" of the season. Not only am I responsible for getting out my own family holiday cards, I am also responsible for all of my customers' holiday cards! Over the last month, I have been spending any bit of free time designing new products to add to my website. I am quite pleased with the outcome so far. I hope you are too!

On a personal note, the nostalgia of the upcoming season has prompted me to dig up a favorite picture of my kiddos, back when they could still fit in a bathtub together. Where does the time go?

Girls Rock

The Note House has been buzzing with custom orders lately. Always a fun challenge. I recently designed a baby shower invite to match the crib bedding that the mommy-to-be has chosen for the baby's nursery. Too cute.

I just completed an order for a friend who needed a gift for her niece who is turning 13. I think this "Girls Rock" set is appropriate, don't you? A large notepad, a small note pad, and 10 flat cards with bright teal envelopes printed with the birthday girl's name. I hope she has fun with it. Do 13 year-olds still write notes...or do they just email and text?

Just in time for the holidays: Hang Tags

The open house was a success! I met lots of interesting people, sold a fair amount of my cash and carry non-personalized items, but most importantly, I took orders on my personalized products--the main emphasis of my business.

I am currently working on adding a new product to my website, gift bag HANG TAGS. Cut from 80# bright white card stock, they measure two inches in diameter, come with attached white ribbon, and they look adorable tied to a gift bag. They are a bit labor intensive, but I love the outcome. I debuted them at the open house, and I got a great response, so look for Hang Tags on my website soon! If any readers out there have specific suggestions, let me know as I am still in the designing stages.

Upcoming Open House

The Note House has been busy preparing for an open house this coming weekend. A thoughtful customer has asked me to set up a display at her home while she hosts a party showcasing different crafty businesses. I was honored that she thought of me and have been getting ready for weeks.

Any previous open houses have consisted of me showing product samples and customers ordering what they wanted and how they wanted them personalized. When Lisa, this weekend's hostess, asked me to have some "cash and carry" items, I had to make some decisions about selecting appropriate designs, making them usable to anyone, yet keeping them from looking store bought and generic. I am hoping that her guests will find them cute and practical. They sure look fun and festive piled up on my coffee table!

My New Logo

New at The Note House...my LOGO! (See above) I have wanted to replace my logo for a while, and I thought since I design my own products I should be able to design a logo, but for some reason I just could never come up with anything I really liked. A graphic designer once told me the hardest person to design for is yourself, so, I found a great girl through Etsy. Tracey at www.traceyfrenchdesigns.com/ was fabulous to work with. She is quick, friendly, and PATIENT. She also has a cute blog at www.themamalog.com/. Tracey was fabulous to work with. She took what I already had and improved it. Thanks again, Tracey!

Back to School...already?

The countdown begins... As a teacher, before my kids were born, the beginning of August was about the time of the summer when reality started to hit. There was excitement of what the upcoming school year would have in store as well as pangs of dread that my beautiful summer was coming to a close.

It has been five years since I left the teaching profession and have had to deal with those feelings because every day was like a summer day for my kids and me. Playgroups, lunches with friends, days at the park, NAPS, gymnastics class, movies...But this school year that all ends for my little Sophie who will be entering kindergarten. I am getting choked up just writing that word.

And so, this brings me to the whole reason I brought up school in the first place. I just finished an order for a friend, Anne. She came up with a great idea to help her incoming kindergarten son know his after school schedule. Since Anne works part-time, on the days she works, her son stays at school for their after-care program. The "bus" tag means he is to ride the bus, while the "school" tag means, for obvious reasons, to stay at school. Genius. Now hopefully you can remember to switch the tags each day, Anne! Thanks for the creative idea.

No better time than the present

So...I've been trying to find a decent time to sit down and really get this blog started properly as I never like to do anything half-heartedly. Obviously, from the amount of posts I have completed (a big zero), I haven't found that time until now. And even now, I have my four year-old son's computer game blaring in my ear behind me and my five year-old daughter asking me how to spell words for her journal, but there's no time better than the present!

What really prompted me to get going on this is that I received an email from Erin at The Preppy Pink Whale this morning informing me that she had featured The Note House monogrammed recipe cards on her blog today.
